    "Simply won't install"

    August 18, 2013  |   By nmweatherman

    Version: YTD Video Downloader 4.5

    Won't install

I run Windows XP Pro and I tried three times to download/install this. I was simply trying to update to YTD 4.5. When I clicked on the installer icon in my Program Files absolutely nothing happens. Nothing. Nada. zero. Zilch. YTD has wasted my time for the last time, I'm finding another.

    "Good downloader"

Easy to use. Normally autocompletes URL.

Despite all the negative reviews, is actually really easy to tell Spigot not to install all of its crapware. You MUST click off the Agree to the terms of service box. This is counterintuitive, and a bit of a con, since mostly you have to accept terms for installations and click off the crapware installer separately. Here they are combined, but you absolutely don't have to click Accept. Also read CNets description which gives you useful information about avoiding crapware.

To be safe, create a restore point or back up system image before installing.

I checked after installation (look in Programs and Features) and it definitely did not install any crapware.

For me, download speed has been good - 4 to 8 mbps for the free version, though Pro says speed is better.

None provided you avoid the crapware
You may need to check the size of the download, and come back to a lower res if the file is too big. But you seem to have to start the download to do this. It would be good if the interface would tell you the download size before starting. A series of instruction files I have downloaded would default to 200 MB, but on resetting to lower res MP4 were about 25 MB but still good quality. However, version 4.5 seems to set these downloads to a reasonable size automatically, unlike 4.2
