"Definitely thinks too much of itself"

    March 12, 2014  |   By bobwa445

    Version: Glary Utilities 4.7.0.96

    Pros

The file duplication part worked very well.

    Cons

Glary wanted to replace the icons and report the functions of windows that tells me that I have an update.

    Summary

I was very upset when this utility decided it was going to try and take over the utilities that are already in Windows, replace my Windows update icon with its own icon. I wasn't sure that the update was Windows or Glary because my Start Button Menu would not set itself to the option other than Shut Down. I decided to turn off the computer during the updates because I had no idea what program was installing updates, and could not figure out why it wasn't windows itself telling me with. I disable Adobe Update, Facebook Update, basically all the update programs that think they should run all the time taking up memory and sometimes changing the way my heavily used software works. I've been using computers since DOS 3.0 and frankly, I want to know what is on my computer, especially these days with so many programs that are only designed to steal information and do damage just for the sick fantasy of some unwashed basement dweller. I know most software designers tend to design their software thinking, "this is the only computer program you are going to use", but that has never been true since the ability to run multiple programs at the same time and switch between them. If Glary wanted to take the system over and replace my system icons and warnings, there should have been an extremely vivid notification that it was going to do it and give me the opportunity to say NO. Luckily after an hour of the blue screen of death I was able to access my computer and go back to a restore point before Glary was installed. Many of the utilities in the program are handled by other programs like Norton, which I never trusted until Microsoft finally started using the reserve space in the operating system, then Norton began working as it was expected to and has been reliable.

    "This is unfortunately crippleware"

    March 5, 2014  |   By whirledorder

    Version: Glary Utilities 4.7.0.96

    Pros

Used to be a good product

    Cons

It started out as a free utility that rocked. Now, everything you click asks you to license the pro version. It's fraudulent, in my opinion: classic crippleware bait-and-switch.

    Summary

Though I am sure it's a great piece of software if you license the pro version and I normally wouldn't have a problem with it's reasonable price. It's the lack of integrity and value that releasing crippleware as the base product represents. I would rather support a developer that was going to be upfront about their software. I'm categorically opposed to this kind of spam. period.

    Version: Glary Utilities 4.6.0.90

    Pros

This program has a wide range of tools to protect and clean your PC. Scanning for malware, cleaning up leftover trash, optimizing memory, repairing your directory and many more features. Not only does it work reliably and fast, but it is 100% free.

    Cons

    None that I've found.

    "Great Product"

    February 23, 2014  |   By garylea

    Version: Glary Utilities 4.6.0.90

    Pros

Really helps in the area of keeping the registry clean, cleaning up shortcuts that are no longer attached to anything and getting rid of disk work space that is no longer needed. Speeds up slower and "stumbling" machines.

    Cons

Doesn't seem to do much for cleaning up malware.

    Summary

I use this weekly to keep all the PCs in the house running optimally.

    "Comprehensive, efficient, quick."

    February 21, 2014  |   By alphaman2007

    Version: Glary Utilities 4.6.0.90

    Pros

It's a good, complete utility program.

    Cons

Although I unchecked the Recycle Bin option, under Windows from the Temporary Files Cleaner; and all the Browser object, because I need them, when I rescan, or close then open up Glary Utilities under the same heading of 1-click maintenance, the option remains the same! It remains checked. The same thing happens when Advanced Tools is chosen! There are computer users such as me who actually want a small, necessary number of files and cookies from the Internet Browser, such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome. Furthermore, the same if somebody has the Opera Browser; I have the first three Browsers that I listed above. I accept Glary Utilities to do better, and offer exact choices to computer users who use the Internet, but don't want to delete almost everything! That's the problem with computing nowadays; we are close to becoming delete dunces. The same business holds true with the listings from Adobe Reader XI.

Disk Defragmenter doesn't work at first upon Analysis.

    Summary

As I said in the beginning, simply a good utility program that used to be better. I've used it before, it is free and much better than a different program I paid $35! However, Glary Utilities should realize that not every computer user, whether he or she spends plenty of time and research on the Internet wants nearly everything gone. Furthermore, this deeply technical business about cleaning the Registry is controversial, and especially if you are not certain, can be damaging. The Registry Defrag is good and acceptable; not by what I think and judge, but by what a Dummies author has explained in a Dummies book.

    Sincerely,

    alphaman2007

    "A seriously dangerous utility"

    February 21, 2014  |   By golden_oldie

    Version: Glary Utilities 4.6.0.90

    Pros

System cleaning utilities seem to work well.

    Cons

    1) The program uses a useless defragmenting utility. First, it claims to 'optimise', but all it does is move large files to the end of the disk. But the main problem with the defragger is that it ignores problems with disk reads. This means that invalid reads can proliferate, leading to much more corruption than originally existed. If you look at your drive using a good defragger after this rubbish has finished with it, you will find a host of badly fragmented files. In my case, a drive with low level corruption of the file system became essentially unreadable. When I tried to defrag using the Windows defragger, it seized up because of the high number of read errors.

    2) The disk testing facility is simply an incompetent frontend to the chkdsk utility. The routine said repeatedly that my disk was fine. It was clear that this wasn't true, so I ran chkdsk from the command line. Four hours later, the routine is still fixing corrupt files on my system!

    Summary

Glary utilities is good at the trivial stuff, but falls down with a bang with stuff that can wreck your system. Avoid it!
