    "Problem free by my experience/ignorance."

    January 8, 2013  |   By roadkill52

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2805

    Pros

    Free, easy to install.

    Cons

None that I'm knowledgeable enough to recognize.

    Summary

I've used AVG Free for several years. I used pc analyzer once on a trial and found the pop-ups annoying after the trial. Also somehow ended up with AVG 2013, not free, trial over, no protection, but uninstall was easy. Installed 2013 Free without issue. I'm running xp still. Perhaps I was being watched over. I'm no whiz when it comes to computers.

    "Great Protection!"

    January 6, 2013  |   By jgpac00000

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2805

    Pros

    Keeps my computer healthy

    Cons

Tried free tune up program - looks spectacular BUT the freebie was only good for a day - then, because this month I couldn't afford to purchase, the program kept popping up with "Buy Now" garbage. Finally, in frustration, I dumped the whole tune up program.

"AVG seems to have lost it's magical touch..."

    January 5, 2013  |   By MortanoTech

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2805

    Pros

    -New layout.
    -Powerful protection tools.
    - Anti-Rootkit tool.
-Offers fantastic protection online from hackers and identity thiefs.
    -It's Free.
-Trusted by Millions around the world

    Cons

-Prevention from viruses and Trojans etc, is simply not good enough!
-Uses up a lot of computer resource.
-Hasn't stepped up to the challenge against rival software's (in my opinion)

    Summary

This is a software i like to call a "50/50" product...

I have used this product for over 5 years now. At first, I would of probably said that this is the best protection available of all time! Little did i know how wrong I was!

The reason why AVG is so popular is because of how much it seems to offer to the user, and, don't get me wrong, it has saved my computer on several occasions (in terms of identity theft), However, the product shows more protection than it offers!

The only good thing I can say about AVG is that it offers probably the best identity protection available for free, and that's it! I, and many other AVG users that I know of, have been hijacked by Viruses, Trojans, Worms and anything you could possibly think of!- We've had it all! and as an estimate, I would say AVG has only protected me from 31% of the threats to my computer! (I would not rely on my estimate, however. Yet it does show you how disappointed I am with the product today).

Another thing, AVG tells you whether you have a rootkit in your computer, but it doesn't tell you where it is and it doesn't know how to get rid of it, when there are plenty of other free software that can deal with these problems quicker than the eye can blink!

I am no longer a customer to AVG products as I feel they are more talk than action. AVG used to be really good...5 years ago...

Overall, I would not recommend AVG to almost anyone. Only use AVG if you are paranoid about somebody stealing your name!

"Less hands-free than some, but stable & reliable"

    January 5, 2013  |   By jkirk1626

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2805

    Pros

Stable on Windows 8, unlike Avast, which gives a blue screen of death every few hours on Windows 8.

    Cons

Requires you to manually update instead of automatically checking itself.

"does its job.... never mind the bad reviews"

    January 2, 2013  |   By clafcun

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2805

    Pros

    free protection.
    neat interface...
    good detection rate.
includes nice add-on toolbar[ which can be disabled ] but has some useful security tools like site checker [ the new one gives info on ip address of site visiting etc] do not track feature etc.
good anti virus protection. email protection ....

    Cons

not as many features as free avast such as sandboxing, and boot scan. and remote assistance[ which i never used anyway] and site blocking[ which i used when using avast, but there are other ways to block sites anyway], but avg offers good protection with features it does offer.

    Summary

i like avg free and avast, im a fan of them both. i changed over to avg a while ago after being with avast for a few months. i might use avast again, or might just keep this... happy enough with it..
i like them both.. avast has some extra features which are cool. but as an antivirus for windows, avg is good, and has some cool features of its own like the security toolbar ...
i just avg is undeserving of some of the bad reviews it gets.
    its a good av.

"Excellent, it speeds up the system."

    December 31, 2012  |   By skoda61

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2805

    Pros

My laptop was booting up slowly even using another antivirus. Since I have AVG in a PC and boot up was improved, I decided to test it in my laptop, and it worked.

    Cons

None so far, it does what it promised (free edition).

    Summary

For me it is still one of the best ones since it improves pc performance.

"It is a good Anti Virus software but not the best..."

    December 30, 2012  |   By JumpmanAgainstTerran

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2805

    Pros

    +Detects faster than Avira

That is all I can say...

    Cons

-At first it takes so long to get your identity...
-Starting up your PC is a slow start because AVG is starting up...
-Installation takes very long time (Avast was faster if not, the fastest)
-Do they need to ask to protect me or not? PROTECT ME DIRECTLY! (Not unless if it is a yellow sign so, just allow me :D)
-Has bugs (But not the most)

    Summary

My first impression for this product is not great at all. It takes them so long to get my identity. They did not even detect virus yet. After 3 days, they got my identity and they started to detect viruses. I admit, this was the one that cleaned my PC but not the most.

Downloading this product does not take long. But installation does take long. I waited like 10 minutes to install. Because they did not detect the viruses at first, I tried uninstalling it. However, I cannot uninstall it. I don't know why... So, this product is stuck on my PC. Avira did all the work at FIRST erasing all the viruses. Then when AVG got my identity, they started entering the war of viruses. AVG did most of the work destroying the viruses. On this time, I had two anti-virus software, Avira and AVG.

I was going with the flow with AVG almost one month but, what happened. They lost a component. I don't know if this counts as a bug but it says you have to RE-INSTALL! I don't like to re-install this product after a bad start. So, I had my own solution. Just download the missing dll files. I did and AVG started responding again. BUT they lost my identity. I can't stand on this product anymore so I uninstalled it. This time it uninstalled.

I replaced AVG with Avast and Avast is better than both AVG and Avira.

Overall, AVG has lots of things to fix. Maybe they put too much things that is why. Although this is better than Avira.
